Jabu the Elephant Supported by Donors and Vets Around the World
A team of international elephant veterinarians and academic researchers are joining in the Jabu conversation and offering information about their experiences with elephant osteo-arthritis and carpal valgus. Elephant limbs are prone to injury and arthritis due to the enormous weight they bear, especially an African bull elephant like Jabu at 6 tonnes, 3.5m to the shoulder, and having a wonderfully wild life. Jabu will be treated with the drug polysulphate sodium to help support his joint. His treatment is expensive, but thanks to the wonderful donors who have come forward, this treatment can start now!
