The World's First Elephant Orthotic Leg Brace returned to Jabu in Botswana, fully adjusted and test driven again. See how it turns out for Jabu... and what treatments are coming up next.
Thembi was an elephant never to be forgotten. In honor of her life, and to mark the 1 year anniversary of her passing, read about her larger than elephant life and how Jabu, Morula, Doug and Sandi cope without her.
A team of international elephant veterinarians and academic researchers are joining in the Jabu conversation and offering information about their experiences with elephant osteo-arthritis and carpal valgus. Elephant limbs are prone to injury and arthritis due to the enormous weight they bear, especially an African bull elephant like Jabu at 6 tonnes, 3.5m to the shoulder, and having a wonderfully wild life. Jabu will be treated with the drug polysulphate sodium to help support his joint. His treatment is expensive, but thanks to the wonderful donors who have come forward, this treatment can start now!
Today, Jabu the Elephant is showcased on Mashable's Pawsthetics episode! Jabu loves being on the big screen! Here, Derrick Campana talks about the world's first elephant orthotic that will be designed for Jabu and fitted. Please #standwithjabu and watch him here.
Soon to be on seen on Animal Planet and The Dodo TV series, Jabu the elephant is one the world’s most beloved African bulls and he is in trouble! Thirteen months ago he was badly injured when he was attacked by a wild bull elephant where Jabu lives in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. He will be fitted with the world's first support leg orthotic by Derrick Campana.
